Science is Lovely!

Hello lovelies


While it may not have been my favourite at school, I am increasingly becoming a fan of science.


Ok science. I'm listening


WHY?


Well turns out it is quite handy at validating things that suit me such as chocolate is good for your health!


Hooray!


Yes there are some caveats, but you can find those in the small print….


The doctors at Medical News today tell us dark chocolate is loaded with nutrients that can positively affect your health. Here’s some of my favourite facts:


  • Very Nutritious - If you buy quality dark chocolate with a high cocoa content, then it is quite nutritious. A 100-gram bar* of dark chocolate with 70–85% cocoa contains 11 grams of fibre, 67% of the RDI for iron, 58% of the RDI for magnesium, 89% of the RDI for copper, 98% of the RDI for manganese. Whoop Whoop!

  • Powerful Source of Antioxidants** - Raw, unprocessed cocoa beans are among the highest-scoring foods that have been tested for ORAC (oxygen radical absorbance capacity). Dark chocolate is loaded with organic compounds that are biologically active and function as antioxidants. These include polyphenols, flavanols and catechins, among others.

  • May Protect Your Skin From the Sun*** - The bioactive compounds in dark chocolate may also be great for your skin. The flavanols can protect against sun damage, improve blood flow to the skin and increase skin density and hydration.

  • Could Improve Brain Function**** - Cocoa or dark chocolate may improve brain function by increasing blood flow.


Sadly, this doesn't mean you should go all out and consume lots of chocolate every day. It is still loaded with calories and easy to overeat. (so easy!) But when you do eat chocolate improve your health, choose quality stuff — dark chocolate with 70% or higher cocoa content.
